A United Arab Emirates national has been arrested on charges of arson on Koh Samui and Koh Phan Ngan. The man, named in a Phuket Express report as 40 year old Muajib Ali Salim Saleh Alkarbi is also understood to be a former UAE police officer.
A spokesman for Surat Thani Immigration confirmed Mr Muajib’s arrest, adding that the arrest was carried out under an arrest warrant issued by Koh Samui Provincial Court on March 3.
According to Koh Samui Police, CCTV footage shows Mr Muajib setting fire to parked BMW and Toyota cars in the sub-district of Taling Ngam on Koh Samui at around 1.30am on March 2. The owner of the vehicles has been named only as Mr Anan, who it’s understood had previously worked with Muajib.
The authorities say the CCTV footage appears to show Muajib driving a motorbike and setting fire to the cars. It’s reported that the suspect ran a second-hand car business with Mr Anan until they fell out.
Muajib faces charges of arson, which he has denied and pledged to fight.
