The famous, and popular, Maya Bay, part of Koh Phi Phi Lee, will be closed for restoration starting on August 1. The annual 2 month closure is a move to give the iconic beach and bay a chance to recover from all the tourist visitations during the rest of the year.
The island will fully re-open, usually at the end of September.
But Maya Bay is just a small part of the Phi Phi archipelago experience – there’s actually 5 islands in the group. There’s plenty of other spots which remain open at this time…
Even Maya Bay. You can still visit the bay, but you can’t go on the beach, but you can get some great photos and be taken onto part of the bay by tour boats for a memorable experience. And there won’t be anyone on the beach to clog up your photos.
Then there’s Pileh Lagoon, just around the corner from Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Lee, perfect for swimming and snorkeling in crystal-clear waters.
The main island of Phi Phi Don is still open and rocking! Parties, beaches, shopping and a large variety of local and international food.
Monkey Beach will get up close with the playful monkeys in their natural habitat, and then there’s Bamboo Island where you can relax on the pristine white sands and soak in the tranquility.
One of the most popular locations is the Viking Cave where you can explore the fascinating history and stunning rock formations. Or Camel Rock aka. Groot Rock.
The Phi Phi Islands still offer a huge range of adventures and great scenery beyond just the ‘Instagram-favourite’ Maya Bay. Tours are heading out to the islands everyday.
