Police on Koh Samui have arrested 2 foreigners accused of creating a public nuisance by riding excessively loud big bikes. The bikes were originally rented in Phuket.
Police allege the motorbikes had undergone “unauthorised modifications”. Residents complained the men were riding big bikes with loud exhaust pipes, while giving locals the middle finger as they drove by.
It’s understood those living on the road leading to Choeng Mon beach on the northeast corner of the island filed a complaint with Bophut Police Station against the two men, whose names and nationalities have not been disclosed.
In their complaint, residents accused the men of “disturbing the peace” and “posing a potential threat to public safety”. According to their complaint, the men were speeding up and down the road on big bikes with noisy exhaust pipes several times a day, every day.
In response, the authorities told residents they would need video evidence in order to take action against the alleged offenders. A video of the bikers, complete with one rider seen giving the camera the middle finger, was forthcoming.
The footage was submitted to Bophut police station’s Facebook page, with police deciding toset up a checkpoint. The bikers, both of whom are thought to be tourists, were subsequently arrested at an intersection near Chaweng Beach on the evening of Saturday, May 25.
Residents have praised police for acting swiftly on receipt of the requested video footage.
