Police on Koh Pha Ngan have arrested a Ukrainian student and a Russian man accused of illegally renting out vehicles.

The 60 year old Russian and  18 year old Ukrainian were arrested on Sunday, September 1, after it was found they were making money by illegally renting out a car and a motorbike.

The Russian man was detained at a property in Moo 1, where arresting officers seized a Surat Thani-registered Mazda CX-3 car. The Ukrainian was arrested in a hotel car park, where a Lopburi-registered Yamaha motorbike was also confiscated.

Police discovered that the Russian had been using the Telegram app to rent out the car for 15,000 baht a month to fellow Russians.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian told officers that he is a student who was trying to make money by renting out his motorbike through the Telegram app. According to a Bangkok Post report, he charged between 399 and 10,000 baht, depending on how long the bike was rented.

Both men have been charged with working in Thailand without a work permit.

Meanwhile, police arrested two British nationals in separate incidents.

28 year old Ben Ransom was apprehended on Monday at a restaurant in Rawai, Phuket. Ransom is wanted in the UK on charges of drug trafficking. After arriving in Thailand in 2022, he became a prizefighter in Muay Thai under the ring name “Billy.” Ransom has denied all charges but will be extradited to the UK.

And on Koh Phangan in Surat Thani province, police arrested 42 year old Thomas Foley on Monday at a rented house. Foley is accused of operating an illegal cosmetic clinic, selling and possessing unregistered medicines and working without a permit. He allegedly provided unauthorised cosmetic filler injections to customers. Police confiscated cosmetic products valued at approximately 3.5 million baht.
