Not all foreigners in Thailand are behaving badly, despite what it may seem like some days…
A kind-hearted American is giving away free motorbike helmets to children in Pattaya. The Pattaya News reports that a 57 year old American expat, known online as ‘Savvy Rick Brown’, is handing out free helmets to families with young children.
A video of Brown’s act of kindness has gone viral, winning him praise on social media. In the video, the TikTok user can be seen stopping families on motorbikes where young children are not wearing helmets. He asks one family for permission to give their child a helmet and the grateful family readily agrees.

Some of Brown’s TikTok videos have garnered over a million views, according to the report, with Thai people praising the American and sharing their experiences of being injured in bike accidents when they were young.
Meanwhile, Brown himself told local media that he went out and bought helmets after seeing too many Pattaya children riding bikes without head protection. He now stands at the side of the road handing them out to families for free.
The Pattaya News reports that Brown has spent the last 18 months living in the kingdom. The American says he has fallen in love with Thailand and its people and understands many families may not have the funds to purchase motorbike helmets.
He has been handing them out for free for 6 months now and, with financial help from his supporters here and in the US, plans to give away a million helmets to families who need them.
