Police investigating alleged serial killer Sararat “Am” Rangsiwuthaporn say they believe she can’t have operated alone and must have had an accomplice. Their attention is now focused on Am’s ex-husband, a former deputy superintendent at Ban Pong Police Station in the central province of Ratchaburi.

Withoon Rangsiwuthaporn was suspended from duty following the arrest of his ex-wife last month. Sararat has been charged with 10 murders so far, although police say they believe they have enough evidence to charge her with 14.

Thailand’s deputy national police chief Surachet Hakparn says an arrest warrant is now being sought for Withoon and police expect to apprehend him in the coming days. The former police officer was questioned for a second time on Tuesday, with Surachet saying he provided valuable information, while still protesting his innocence.

According to his testimony, Withoon says his ex-wife asked him to travel to the north-eastern province of Udon Thani to collect the car of one of her alleged victims, Suthisak Poonkwan. He then drove the car to Nakhon Pathom, around 50 kilometres outside Bangkok, where his ex-wife sold it to a pawnshop.

It’s understood the alleged murderer had run up debts and had been transferring cash to a number of people, some of them criminals. Officers have uncovered evidence in her car that includes loan agreements and traces of cyanide.

Surachet goes on to say that Sararat allegedly carried out the murders at weekends, when she took trips with her victims.

“We have to check who took weekend breaks with her and what triggered her to commit the crimes, such as repayment deadlines for debts.”

Meanwhile, Withoon says he divorced Sararat due to disagreements over money. However, police suspect he may have done so to avoid being implicated and prosecuted.

It’s understood that while the couple divorced 3 years ago, they were still living together at police accommodation in Kanchanaburi, western Thailand, as recently as last year.
