Bangkok permanent-secretary Khajit Chatchavanich says emergency and response teams in the capital have been put on standby as thunderstorms are forecast until Friday. The Thai Meteorological Department has predicted thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in Bangkok and other parts of central Thailand until February 17.

To handle emergencies caused by the storm, the city has placed emergency teams in all 50 districts on 24/7 standby, with equipment ready to deal with fallen trees that may block public roads or cut power lines. Khajit says the city’s firefighters and rescue teams are also on standby to help people affected by thunderstorms, floods, or hail.

Municipal police officers have been instructed to keep a close watch on the flood situation in their areas and to check updates from the Thai Meteorological Department between now and Friday. District offices will deploy traffic officials to flooded roads to help affected motorists and may send vehicles to assist stranded commuters, according to Khajit.

Officials have urged individuals to check trees on their properties and contact the city to handle any that are in danger of falling in the storms. Bangkok officials can be contacted at any district office, through the hotline 1555, or through the Traffy Fondue application. People in need of emergency assistance can call the 199 hotline at any time.
