Bangkok police have returned a gold necklace valued at A$4,000 dollars, (97,000 baht), to the tourist it was stolen from.
Khaosod English reports that the victim, an Australian man named only as Mr Brock, had filed a report with Lumpini Police after suspecting a Thai ladyboy had stolen the item while pretending to hug him.
According to Mr Brock’s complaint, the incident took place just before 6.15pm on July 21, in front of the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Sukhumvit Road, in the Wattana district. He says he was walking from Sukhumvit Soi 11 towards the Asok intersection, when a ladyboy approached and began to engage him in conversation.
It’s understood she wrapped her left arm around him from behind, while using her right hand to unfasten the gold necklace around his neck without him noticing. On realising later that the necklace was gone, he went to Lumpini Police Station.
It’s understood the authorities spent 2 weeks tracking down the thief before arresting “Thosaporn” in the car park of Krongthong Mansion on On Nut Road, in the Suan Luang district of Bangkok.
Thosaporn admitted to the theft, taking officers to her room, where she handed over the necklace. She was then taken to Lumpini Police Station to be charged.
