The Governor of Bangkok says the city is taking all necessary precautions as more tourists are expected to return to the capital this year. According to Chadchart Sittipunt, officials are taking the necessary steps to keep residents safe, including assessing the readiness of the healthcare system in terms of available staff, beds, treatment and vaccine availability.
According to a report from the National News Bureau of Thailand, officials are particularly monitoring the situation at popular tourist locations such as Khao San and Yaowarat Roads, and at temples, hotels, and floating markets. Chadchart says the risk of transmission is higher at such spots, due to the number of visitors.
City Hall has also re-opened its Covid-19 Command Centre, to ensure information is properly recorded and to promote disease-prevention measures such as social distancing, mask-wearing, regular hand-washing, and SHA Plus measures for businesses.
Chadchart adds that Covid-19 vaccines could be made available for visitors if they’re interested, and says a system will be put in place to help tourists who are unable to return home due to Covid-19, if their country of origin requires a negative test result.
