A suspect is in police custody following a shooting incident at a Bangkok nightclub that left 8 people injured. The shooting at the Onyx nightclub in the Huai Khwang district took place in the early hours of Monday morning as revellers were enjoying a final night of Songkran celebrations.
Coconuts reports that Makkasan Police were called to reports of gunfire at the Onyx Club at around 1.00am. It’s understood that what had started as a bar brawl quickly escalated, culminating in the random shooting. Eight men and a women, all believed to be in their 20s, were injured and taken to hospital.
According to witness reports, a man entered the venue and started a row with another male customer. He then produced a gun and began firing shots into the ground, resulting in a number of stray bullets striking customers. Witnesses say in the resulting chaos, people began running from the venue.
The suspect in custody is believed to be a Chinese national. Police have also recovered over 10 spent shells from the venue.
