Two people are dead and cars damaged following the collapse of a huge piece of concrete beam that weighed approximately five tonnes. The huge slab fell from an elevated U-turn bridge last night on the Rama II Road in Samut Sakorn province, south west of Bangkok. The incident happened around 8.30pm Sunday night.
The structure was still in the middle of being repaired after an oil truck once caught fire travelling over the elevated U-turn. The repairs were scheduled to be completed this month.
One of the people killed was a construction worker who was standing on top of the concrete and fell as the concrete beam crashed to the ground. Other people were injured with pieces of the concrete smashing and flying into the air. Another worker has been seriously injured after falling down with the slab.
One vehicle was sliced in half by the falling block.
City engineers are on site this morning to investigate the incident.
