A Hong Kong man has died after being pulled from the water unconscious while on a scuba diving trip in the Gulf of Thailand.
The incident happened in the Sattahip district of Chon Buri on Saturday, August 11, while the man was diving in Samae San Bay. The Pattaya News reports that at around 2.30pm, the Sattahip Rescue Foundation received an emergency call about an unconscious diver.
The unnamed Hong Kong diver had been brought to shore by a naval vessel and rescue workers and an emergency medical team were dispatched to the scene.
Medical workers were unable to locate a pulse and carried out CPR, before the man was rushed to the emergency room at Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 4pm.
According to witnesses, the diver had been complaining of a pain in his chest before he entered the water.
The authorities are now liaising with the man’s embassy to return his body to next-of-kin.
