Police in Pattaya had to intervene to break up a late-night fight between Kuwaiti tourists, according to a Khaosod English report. The incident is becoming part of an annual ritual between visiting Kuwaiti students, hiring motorbikes and being a nuisance, and Pattaya police.
The incident happened just before midnight on Wednesday, August 7, in Soi Yensabai, in the Banglamung district. It’s not the first time Kuwaiti men have caused problems in Pattaya, with 50 Kuwaiti bikers clashing with a group of Thai teenagers on Saturday, August 3. A well as in years past.
On Wednesday night, officers arrived in Soi Yensabai to find around 20 Kuwaitis having an angry verbal disagreement, which threatened to become physical as the men tried to attack each other.
One witness, a staff member at a nearby restaurant, told police that two groups of Kuwaitis had been dining separately, when they suddenly stood up and a fight broke out. Restaurant workers managed to break up the fight, but the men then took it into the street, at which point the staff member decided to call the police.
According to local officials, Pattaya has become increasingly popular among Kuwaiti students on summer break, with many visiting during July and August. The authorities say there have been complaints from local residents and other tourists of young Kuwaiti men driving recklessly, revving their engines excessively, and racing each other.
