Police in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur have ordered the cancellation of a performance by Thai cross-dressing men, after protests from a number of opposition MPs.

The “Thai Hot Guys” event, was scheduled to take place at a club in the capital on Thursday, March 30. It has now been cancelled, after the opposition Malaysian Islamic Party registered its disapproval, branding the event “immoral and disgusting”.

According to a Thai PBS World report, Malaysian police confirmed they had received numerous complaints and had already warned the Privacy Club Tun Razak about hosting the event. The club has now apologised and agreed to cancel the event.

Marketing materials for the event included photos of the male Thai dancers in lingerie. The men had been hired to perform as part of the club’s grand opening, with customers being offered a chance to “meet and probably dance along with the Thai Hot Guys.”

Takiyuddin Hassan, secretary-general of the Malaysian Islamic Party, has stated that the event “goes against local values and is insensitive towards Islam as the official religion”.

The timing of the event has not helped.

“What’s more, it’s going to be held during Ramadan.”

The MP went on to describe the event as “hedonistic” and slammed it for promoting promiscuity and obscenity.

Meanwhile, an aide to Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim has also jumped into the fray, pointing out that the venue is not actually licenced to host such events.

Bottomline, the event isn’t happening!
