The Department of Land Transport has launched an app that removes the need for drivers to carry their licence with them. Just make sure you have your phone with you instead!
According to a report in the Bangkok Post, the DLT QR LICENCE app uses a QR code that enables drivers to display their driving licence information. DLT director general Seksom Akraphand says the app will allow motorists to use their smartphones or tablets to show their driving licence if required to do so.
It’s understood that in addition to the driving licence information, the app can also be programmed to show an individual’s personal information, including blood type and any drug allergies. It will also alert drivers when their licence is about to expire.
The app will also allow motorists to contact emergency services in the event of an accident, and to share their travel routes, location, and car registration information.
According to the report, the app works on both Android and iOS operating systems and can be downloaded from both the Apple and Google Play stores. In order for a driving licence to be compatible with the app, it must be one of the newer licences, with a QR code on the back.
