Thailand may finally get a new PM next week – more than 3 months since the May 14 general election. Lower house speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha has set a tentative date of August 22 for the next PM vote. The Pheu Thai Party, which is leading attempts to form a new coalition government, is nominating Srettha Thavisin for the role.
Nation Thailand reports that Wan called a meeting with parliamentary whips and representatives from the main political parties to discuss the date of the PM vote. That move followed the Constitutional Court’s decision to reject a petition brought in relation to the blocking of Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s renomination for the PM role.
According to Senate adviser, Somchai Sawaengkarn, the date of August 22 had already been mentioned when Wan held talks with deputy Senate speaker Supachai Somcharoen.
