A British man has been arrested in Pattaya after a single punch left a Russian man dead.
The incident happened at a house party at View Point Village, in the Bang Lamung district, at around 2.50am on May 27.
The victim, named only as 36 year old Igor Yasilyev, was allegedly punched once in the face by 35 year old Ricky Aaron Williams, causing him to fall to the ground with serious injuries. He later died at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.
Officers from Pattaya police station subsequently arrested ‘Ricki’ at a guest house in Jomtien sub-district, charging him with assaulting another person, causing death.
The suspect’s wife, named as 28 year old Mod, says that prior to the incident, her husband had sent her the location of the party, inviting her to join him. However, she left the party shortly after it started as she had to return to work.
At around 3am, she says she received a message from her husband saying he wanted to go home. Concerned, she returned to the party but found her husband walking in the middle of the street.
Mod says her husband told police that Igor had started flirting with the couple’s daughter, despite the Russian’s wife being present. According to Ricki, Igor then began to harass the British man’s daughter, telling her he wanted to have sex with her.
The Briton says this caused him to punch Igor, causing him to fall the ground. Ricki later told police he had acted out of anger and was shocked that his single punch had caused the death of the Russian man. He has expressed remorse for his actions.
