Police in Pattaya are getting tough on bars and other entertainment venues that ignore the legally required closing time. Despite the changes in closing time laws last year… for many bars that meant they could stay open until 4am.
The Pattaya News reports that the authorities carried out a raid on 4 bars in the city on Sunday, June 2, after complaints that the venues were staying open beyond legally permitted hours.
According to the report, the venues targeted in the raid are on Soi Kho Phai, South Pattaya Road, and Pattaya Third Road. During the raids, it emerged that the venues allegedly remain open late on a regular basis.
One bar was also found to be selling alcohol without a licence to do so, while some others were selling kratom-infused drinks without a licence.
The establishments in question have all been charged and it’s understood the police are seeking an order to close down some of them permanently as a result of repeat violations. The authorities have not named any of the venues or individuals involved, pending the legal cases against them.
The legal closing time for nightlife businesses in Pattaya is usually between midnight and 4am, depending on location and the venue’s licence.
The police say they will continue their checks on Pattaya nightlife to ensure they are obeying the law.
