Parts of Phang Nga have been decimated by a powerful storm, which brought strong winds and heavy rain to the southern province, mostly in the coast north of the province.
The Takua Pa district took the brunt of the storm, sustaining widespread damage, with officials warning that the bad weather will continue until Thursday. Trees have been uprooted, power poles have fallen, and many homes have lost their roofs. Fortunately, there have been no reports of deaths or injuries at this time.
According to a Nation Thailand report, officials are out and about surveying the damage and assisting affected residents. Meanwhile, there are warnings of isolated heavy rainfall and strong waves in the region in the coming days.
Several provinces have been warned to expect very heavy rainfall in the coming days. They include Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, Satun, and Ranong, with residents warned to beware of flash floods and runoffs.
Waves in the Andaman Sea are expected to reach 2 – 3 metres in height, with boats, particularly small vessels, advised to remain ashore.
