The leader of the Move Forward Party and PM hopeful, Pita Limjaroenrat, has contracted Covid-19, leading to the postponement of tomorrow’s planned coalition meeting. According to a Nation Thailand report, it is the third time Pita has been infected with the virus.
A meeting of the 8 parties that make up the coalition was scheduled to take place tomorrow, to prepare for the House opening. It has now been moved to next week, although a date has yet to be confirmed.
It’s understood the Move Forward leader contracted the virus while on a visit to thank voters in the north of the country. Pita has confirmed the diagnosis, posting on his Facebook page yesterday and urging those he had contact with to test and self-isolate.
“On Sunday, (June 18), I started to have a few symptoms. After that, I started to self-isolate.”
According to the Nation Thailand report, Pita used an antigen test kit yesterday, which returned a positive result. He will be absent from any meetings in the near future, including a gathering of party transition teams and a seminar being attended by new Move Forward MPs, both of which are scheduled to take place between today and Friday.
During Pita’s self-isolating period, Chaitawat Tulathon, secretary-general of Move Forward, is expected to cover for him.
