The Thai PM has praised the Thai athletes taking part in the Olympic Games in Paris, with the kingdom having secured 1 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals (so far).

Government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke says PM Srettha Thavisin has congratulated taekwondo athlete Phaniphak Wongphatthanakit on winning a gold medal. Phaniphak won the women’s 49 kilo taekwondo final against China’s Guo Qing, becoming the first Thai athlete to win 3 consecutive medals at the Olympics.

The PM has praised Phaniphak for her dedication and talent, describing her as an idol for young people in Thailand and someone who has made the whole country proud on the world stage.

Meanwhile, Thai weightlifting champion Theeraphong Silachai is bringing home a silver medal from the men’s 61 kilo category, and Surajana Khampao has won bronze in the women’s 49 kilo weightlifting event.

The PM says he’s proud of Surajana’s first appearance at the Olympics, as he called on Thais to continue supporting the kingdom’s athletes.
