Three suspects wanted in relation to the alleged murder of a Chinese businessman have been arrested in the southern province of Satun. Thai PBS World reports that police arrested 2 men and a 17 year old girl they want to speak to in relation to the death of the Chinese man.
The body of 43 year old Zhirui Liu was found in the bathroom of his Trang hotel room on Tuesday, May 16. He had sustained over 20 stab wounds, including to his chest. It’s understood the victim lived in Thailand and worked in the export of rubber and wood. He was married to a Thai woman and had 3 children.
According to the report, one of the 3 suspects arrested, named only as 22 year old Natdanai, told police he received a call from the arrested 17 year old, who is his girlfriend. In the call, he says she asked for his help, saying the Chinese man was refusing to pay her for sexual services and claiming he assaulted her.
Natdanai says he plotted with his girlfriend that she would leave a window in the resort room open and he would use it to access the room and attack the victim, in order to get revenge. Following the fatal attack, the 3 suspects used the Chinese man’s Honda Accord car to flee Trang, taking refuge in their hometown in the La-ngu district of Satun.
Arresting officers have also seized the car, along with a number of other items, including 5 ATM cards, 11 bank books, a credit card, 2 passports, 3 mobile phones, and 11,700 baht in cash, all of which they believe the suspects stole from their victim.
