A manhunt is underway for a Chinese gang, following the armed robbery of a luxury home in the central province of Pathum Thani, just north of Bangkok.
Homeowner Ke Jibao, a 34 year old Chinese businessman, told officers that 4 Chinese men broke into the property and forced him and the other residents to transfer over 70 million baht to their bank account.
The victim says all the men were wearing ski masks when they stormed into the house, located on a golf course in the Mueang district, on Tuesday night, August 13.
At the time, there were 3 men and 3 women in the house, who between them, were forced to transfer the digital currency to the gang’s account.
The 4 then made their getaway in the victim’s car at around 2.45am, taking the property’s CCTV servers with them. Nation Thailand reports that during the ordeal, Ke sustained a knife wound to his wrist, while one of his family members was struck on the forehead with a gun. Both received hospital treatment after being questioned by police.
The following day, police recovered the victim’s stolen car, a black Toyota Alphard, which had been abandoned near a power plant in the Ban Mai sub-district. The vehicle is now undergoing forensic testing for clues as to the identity of the perpetrators.
The police investigation is being led by Narong Iamrahong, chief of Pak Klong Rangsit Police. Officers are speaking to each of the victims, and to neighbours, as well as reviewing CCTV footage from areas along the gang’s escape route.
