A Russian expat couple living in Pattaya have been fined 10,000 baht each after they were caught riding jet skis in a protected area of the main Krabi foreshore.

The Phuket Express reports that the 47 year old Russian man and his wife had attached 2 jet skis to a car and driven from Pattaya to visit the islands and beaches of the southern provinces.

A video of the couple riding their jet skis near Krabi’s Koh Hong subsequently went viral on social media. The video was recorded by a local tour boat operator, who notified the Krabi Marine Office.

According to the Phuket Express report, the Russian couple say they were not aware that riding jet skis in that section of the Krabi coastline was forbidden. It’s understood they had stopped at many beaches in the area to ride their jet skis.

Both have admitted that it is them in the video and paid a fine of 10,000 baht each for riding in an area protected by the Environment Protection Act.

Officials from Krabi Marine Office have confirmed the jet skis are registered and licensed in Pattaya.
