The director of a primary school in Thailand’s north east, as well as a retired teacher, have been arrested for allegedly paying for sex with a 12 year old student. Three other people, accused of organising the liaisons were also arrested.
Commander of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division told Thai media about the arrest of the five suspects today.
The five people arrested are…
• 26 year old Ms Wantananon Khamphrom – alleged sex procurer
• 58 year old Ms Daoruang Wirunpaksee – resort owner in Chum Phae district of Khon Kaen
• 58 year old Sitthiporn Somboon – resort owner in Chum Phae district of Khon Kaen
• 58 year old Poj Puramphaka – primary school director
• 69 year old Wichai Manad – a retired teacher
During yesterday’s operation in Khon Kaen, three young female victims were also rescued, one aged 12 years old and the other two 17 years old.
The arrests followed the parents of the 12 year old seeking help from the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women. Ms Wantananon Khamphrom was then arrested for procuring one of the victims for paid sex.
Mr Sitthiporn and Ms Daoruang were later arrested, both over similar allegations.
The two other men, a current primary teacher and a retired teacher, were then arrested for allegedly buying sex from the girls, on at least two occasions. One of the girls studied at the same school where Mr Poj was the school director.
Ms Wantananon told police that she supplied the girl for paid sex with customers. The fee paid was 1200, minus her commission of 400 baht.
The Pavena Foundation for Children and Women report that the three girls are now under the care of Ban Kret Trakan welfare home. They will be able to continue with their studies.
