The brother of a Malaysian woman who went missing in Thailand says he believes she’s been captured in a CCTV recording.

According to a Coconuts report, 22 year old Angie Chong Sum Yee was travelling alone in Thailand and was last seen in Chiang Mai. The Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok has already confirmed it is investigating her disappearance.

Now the missing woman’s brother, Chong, who has travelled to Thailand with his mother, says a Thai TV channel has aired a news report containing CCTV footage of someone who looks like his sister.

“At present, this is the most recent development we are aware of. We came across the news report on You Tube. But at the moment, we have not travelled there to confirm whether or not it is truly my sister.”

Angie’s brother says his family did not know she planned to travel to Thailand, or her reasons for doing so, only finding out she was in the kingdom after she arrived here on May 29.

“She did not inform anyone prior to her departure; she only notified us after reaching there. After her arrival, she maintained contact with us through WhatsApp, until suddenly going silent. The last time she contacted us was on May 31.”

The Thai authorities have now launched a search operation, with officials meeting with Angie’s mother and brother following their arrival in Chiang Mai yesterday. The last confirmed sighting of the missing woman was in Chiang Rai, near the Burmese border, on June 1.

The woman’s mother, named as Choy Won, has been very active on social media, as she pleads for the public’s help in locating her daughter. She has also filed formal complaints with both the Thai and Malay authorities.
