A major Phuket sporting event often referred to as “The Race of Legends” is back after a two year pandemic-induced break. This November will see the long-awaited return of the Laguna Phuket Triathlon to north Phuket in and around the Laguna residential development in Bang Tao.
The event, which will take place on Sunday, November 20, is Asia’s longest-standing triathlon race. And, like all triathlons, it’s not for the faint-hearted.
The event features a swim of 1.8 kilometres, in both the Andaman Sea and Laguna’s freshwater lagoon, a 50 kilometre bike ride, taking in the surrounding countryside and local villages, and culminating in a challenging climb over the Nai Thon hills, and a 12 kilometre run through the Laguna complex and surrounding communities, terminating back at the beach.
If all of this excites you and you haven’t yet done so, applicants are being advised to sign up for each race as quickly as possible, under the categories Individual and Team Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon. And if you need a place to stay, 7 hotels in the Laguna Phuket group are offering a special rate for triathlon participants using the code “LTP2022”.
If you previously registered for the 2021 event, your registration has automatically been transferred to the November 20 date for this year’s event and you do not need to take any further action.
Road closures and diverted traffic can be expected on the morning of the event, with organisers expected to confirm details nearer the time.
