Phuket gets ready for Expo 2028 event pitch

Phuket Governor Narong Woonsew announced during the Governor Meets Media conference at the City Hall that Phuket must be ready for the visit of Bureau International des Exposition in July. The BIE will visit Phuket as the island puts in their pitch for the World Specialised Expo in 2028.

The NIE has received candidature dossiers from the US (Minnesota), Thailand (Phuket), Serbia (Belgrade), Spain (Malaga) and Argentina (Bariloche) to organise the Specialised Expo 2027/28.

Previously on June 20, Thailand Phuket Team led by Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, went to Paris to present how well prepared Phuket is for the expo (Anutin has since returned to Bangkok and tested positive for Covid-19 – he had previously had 6 Covid vaccines).

The Phuket Governor said that the BIE will inspect the readiness of Phuket as the host and many government and private sectors will cooperate to welcome the group to show that Phuket is ready.

The President of Phuket Tourism Association, Bhummikitti Ruktaengam, said that there will be a team that makes presentation and answer all the questions from the BIE representatives. The team members will be selected and trained well to provide the best impression and answer about Phuket and Thailand.

The Governor also urged all Phuket people to be good hosts for the BIE team during their visit.
