According to “Travel + Leisure – India“.
Thailand was also nominated in the publication’s “Best Country” award this year.
Phuket was up against Bali, Monte Carlo, Saadiyat Island (Abu Dhabi), Ras Al Khaimah (UAE), Tuscany and Amwaj Island, Manama (capital of Bahrain).
The Readers’ Choice Awards voted Phuket as “Best Wedding Destination” reflecting “the ongoing love Indian travellers have for Thailand as a preferred romance destination.
Thailand was named “Best Honeymoon Destination” for two years running leading up to the 2021 awards for the same publication.
Tanes Petsuwan, Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia/South Pacific, TAT says that Phuket has been a popular destination for the often spectacular Indian weddings for many years.
“This award from Travel + Leisure India highlights Thailand’s position as one of the most popular destinations for Indian weddings and special occasion celebrations.”
The publication noted…
“Phuket is indeed a very popular and loved destination for Indian travellers, who are also celebrating their special occasions in the nearby islands of Khao Lak and Krabi.” (Phuket-GO notes that they probably need to get their map out as neither Khao Lak or Krabi are islands)
India is a major source market for Thailand, particularly since the reopening of the borders since the start of this year. For Phuket Indians were the main source of tourists in 2022 until recent months when Russian arrivals have started to surpass Indian tourists.
“Direct flights from various cities in India, visa-on-arrival, a wide choice of accommodation, availability of Indian and vegetarian cuisine, favourable weather, and the renowned Thai hospitality are all factors helping to make Phuket so popular among Indian weddings, honeymoons, and other travellers.”
