Surfing at Kata in August competition

The President of Thailand Surfing Association, Chanin Ayarak, says that the association, together with Phuket Tourism Association, will arrange a Thailand Surfing Championship from August 3 – 7 at Kata Beach on Phuket’s west coast.

The competition will be combined with Phuket X Beat Series, which include surf skating class, beach yoga and Beat Boy performances.

“The activities are created to improve the economy and encourage the trend of water sports after the crisis of Covid-19.”

This is the second competition the association have arranged at Kata Beach. The beach was selected because the waves are usually perfect for surfing while it also one of the island’s prettiest beaches.

(Phuket, whilst not famous for its surf, has a good surf during May to December each year along some beaches of the west coast for beginners)

There will also be live music and other performances along with all the beach and surf activities.

The organiser expects more than 100 athletes to attend the event, plus parents and visitors, which will generate revenue for the local area.

There will be a general short board surfing, general long board surfing and SUP Surfing demonstration at the event.
