An American driver has been arrested and charged following a road rage incident in Phuket.
The Phuket Express reports that the incident took place on the Bypass Road in Wichit yesterday, August 29. A Thai woman, identified only as 28 year old Ms Sand, subsequently filed a complaint with Wichit Police.
Ms Sand told officers that she was driving to the Central Phuket shopping centre when a car suddenly overtook her twice without signalling. When she stopped at traffic lights near the Darasamut Intersection, she says the same vehicle pulled up beside her and the driver got out.
She says the driver was angry and tried to open her locked car door, frightening her.
After she filed her police report, officers managed to track down the other driver through his car registration plate. He has been named only as 44 year old Mr Sunny, an American national and holder of an international driving permit.
Mr Sunny was summoned to Wichit Police Station, where he told officers he’d been rushing his wife to hospital due to a medical emergency. He says that while driving behind Ms Sand’s car, she abruptly stopped in front of him, forcing him to slam on the brake and accidentally bumping his wife.
He says this angered him and when Ms Sand’s car stopped at the lights, he got out to confront her over her driving.
According to the report, Mr Sunny’s explanation fell on deaf ears and he has been charged with damaging property and threatening behaviour.
