BREAKING: Morning heavy rains and flooding causing havoc, flight delays

Phuket's heavy rains causing havoc

Heavy overnight rain, flooding several areas around the island, has returned around 9am this morning, even preventing flights from arriving in Phuket.

At least 15 flights were diverted to nearby airports after a concentration of heavy rain cells descended on the area around the Phuket International Airport. The flights were diverted due to “very low visibility caused by heavy rain.”

The passenger flights were diverted to Surat Thani and Krabi. Some even had to head to Bangkok as well as airports in Penang and Langkawi in Malaysia.

We would urge that people flying in or out of Phuket today check their schedules although the current rain cells appear to be easing off, according to the weather radars, moving to the north and Phang Nga.
