A British man wanted on a charges of embezzlement has been arrested on arrival at Phuket Airport.
It’s understood 37 year old Alexander Laurence Church was attempting to enter the kingdom on a new passport, as his previous passport was linked to a warrant issued for his arrest. But he ended being detained in the International Arrivals Hall on Monday, July 1, according to a Phuket News report.
An arrest warrant issued by Phuket Provincial Court had identified Church using his previous passport number. Following his arrest, he was taken to Patong Police Station to face legal action. However, officers have not provided any further information on the nature of the alleged embezzlement.
The following day, July 2, immigration officers arrested 4 other foreigners who were found to have overstayed their visa. All 4 have been charged with staying in the kingdom illegally.
They have been named as Egyptian national “Mohamed”, who has overstayed by 1,898 days, Pakistani national “Zubair”, who has overstayed by 1,734 days, Russian national “Dmitri” who has overstayed by 413 days, and another Egyptian national, “Haitham”, who has overstayed by 234 days.
In addition, a Phuket landlord has been charged with failing to inform Immigration of foreigners staying at the property, a violation of Section 38 of the Immigration Act. The name of the accommodation has not been confirmed by Phuket Immigration.
