A 62 year old British tourist was found bleeding profusely after sustaining facial injuries in a violent mugging in Phuket’s tourist town of Patong.
The incident took place near a bar on Bangla Road in Patong on Friday morning, August 9. The victim has been named only as “Mr Robert”.
Patong Police were alerted to the incident and arrived on the scene. The British man told officers that he’d been attacked by a “young Thai man”, who stole his gold bracelet, valued around 120,000 baht, in the process.
Officers have reviewed CCTV footage that shows the victim talking to the alleged perpetrator. Mr Robert says that during the assault, he told the suspect his wife would give him more money. However, according to the Phuket Express report, it’s not clear what exactly was said in the exchange between two men.
In the footage, the Thai man can then be seen hitting and kicking Mr Robert, before grabbing his bag and fleeing.
Patong Police are searching for the suspect and have appealed to anyone with any information to come forward.
