Authorities are investigating the death of an Asian woman, believed to be a Chinese tourist, whose body was discovered early this morning on Kata Beach. The body was found by police just after 6am this morning.
Initial examinations by the police revealed no signs of physical assault. It is estimated that the woman had been dead for at least five hours before she was found. No identification documents were located on the woman’s body, complicating immediate identification.
Rescue workers have transferred the body to Vachira Phuket Hospital. Authorities are now working to identify the deceased and are appealing to the public for any information that could help locate her relatives.
This incident occurs during the annual monsoon season, which makes the west coast beaches of Phuket particularly dangerous. Strong currents and rough seas pose significant risks to swimmers and beachgoers, with popular beaches well signed with red flags along the foreshore.
Officials have issued numerous warnings to tourists and locals alike to exercise extreme caution and heed the advise of on-duty lifeguards when visiting these beaches during this time of the year.
