A pickup truck has driven into the back of a baht bus in north Phuket, leaving 16 people hospitalised. The Phuket Express reports that the incident took place in the Srisoontorn sub-district of Thalang, north Phuket.

The pickup truck crashed into the back of a ‘baht bus’, or songtaew, in the early hours of yesterday morning. 14 Burmese nationals and 2 Thais were injured in the accident.

Emergency workers arrived at the scene to find a damaged songtaew, which had crashed into a tree on the central reservation of Thep Kasattri Road. A damaged pickup truck was nearby.

The injured were taken to various hospitals in 7 ambulances, with one unidentified Thai person having sustained serious injuries.

Thalang Police have not made any statement in relation to the cause of the accident but an investigation is reported to be underway.
