A Dutch woman who was arrested and accused of illegally entering Thailand claims an immigration official at Phuket Airport failed to stamp her passport on arrival. The unnamed 28 year old was arrested for illegally entering and staying in the kingdom, according to a Phuket Express report.
It’s understood she was detained at the Immigration checkpoint in the international departures area of Phuket Airport early last week. She was then taken to Sakoo Police Station and charged with illegally entering and staying in Thailand. The woman says she was held for 5 days and has described her experience as a “nightmare”, claiming she did nothing wrong.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the woman received assistance from her embassy. She insists the immigration officer who processed her arrival failed to stamp her passport and she has warned other tourists to check their passports before leaving the immigration counter.
According to the Phuket Express, a Dutch man had a similar experience recently and he too received assistance from the embassy.
It’s not known if immigration officials will be commenting on the reports or reviewing either incident.
