Staff at Phuket International Airport were on hand to welcome a new flight from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, operated by Hainan Airlines. According to a Phuket Express report, flight HU465, a Boeing 737-800 landed at the airport on Friday after completing the new route from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

Guangzhou is the capital of the southern province of Guangdong and is around 120 kilometres north-west of Hong Kong, as part of the Pearl Delta, one of the most populous regions in the world.

According to the report, Airports of Thailand Ground Services serviced the inaugural flight, making Hainan Airlines the 55th carrier to receive ground handling services from AOTGA. Airport staff welcomed the Chinese passengers with a banner that read, “Celebrating the first flight of Hainan Airlines from Guangzhou to Phuket.”

An airport spokesperson says the Chinese carrier has been given a 5 star rating by Skytrax, a consultancy firm based in the UK that manages performance reviews and ratings for airlines and airports. Hainan Airlines is the largest privately-owned air transportation company in China and currently operates over 500 domestic and international routes.

The carrier will now operate 5 flights a week between Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Phuket International Airport.
