A Kyrgyz boxer has been questioned by police investigating the attempted rape of a spa worker in Phuket.
The 28 year old boxer named “Sultan” from Kyrgyzstan was in Phuket for training when the incident took place at a spa in Chalong. A spa employee subsequently filed a police complaint on Wednesday, August 21, in which she accuses the boxer of sexual assault.
The victim has been named only as 19 year old “Ms A”. In her police complaint, she alleges that the incident took place at around 1pm, on Sunday, August 18, when the boxer visited the spa for an ice bath. Ms A prepared the bath for him and left him in the room to return to her desk at the reception area.
At around 5pm, she says the boxer emerged to say he had finished. She went into the room to turn off the gas, at which point the boxer allegedly followed her and sexually harassed her before attempting to rape her. She says he then used Google Translate to translate the words, “can’t continue due to back pain, will come back the next day,” before then typing, “don’t tell anyone.”
According to the report, the boxer turned himself in to Chalong Police on Saturday, August 24, after officers contacted him. Forensic officers have also visited the scene of the alleged rape attempt to collect evidence, as well as taking Sultan’s fingerprints.
In Thailand, section 276 of the Criminal Code states that anyone using threats or force to have sexual intercourse with another person in a situation where that person is unable to resist, or causing that person to mistake them for someone else, faces a punishment of between 4 and 20 years in prison and a fine of between 80,000 and 400,000 baht.
Khaosod English reports that at around 3.30pm on Saturday, August 24, the boxer posted pictures of himself training as normal.
