Part of a mountain in Phang Nga has collapsed following a minor earthquake in the province, although national park officials say the two events are not necessarily connected. The incident occurred at the very top of Phang Nga Bay.

The mountain is part of a public park in the Mueang district and collapsed following a minor earthquake on Wednesday, June 26, in the sub-district of Bang Toei. However, park officials say the mountain’s collapse could have been caused by recent heavy rainfall as opposed to the small quake.

According to a Phuket Express report, Phang Nga mayor Choochoat Gaoigoon was alerted after people exercising in the Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Park on Wednesday discovered the partial collapse of the mountain.

It’s understood the collapse had triggered a rock fall which blocked some walkways in the park. Officials temporarily sealed off the area for the public’s safety.
