Phuket is one of 17 provinces to have been issued with a landslide and flash flood warning from the Geohazard Operation Centre.
The centre, part of the Department of Mineral Resources, issued their report yesterday, September 17. In it, they warned that ongoing heavy rain risks causing flash floods and landslides in the following 17 provinces:
Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, Satun, Ranong, Chumphon, Tak, Chiang Mai, Phayao, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, Kanchanaburi, Rayong Chanthaburi, Trat, and Sakaeo.
The Phuket Marine Office has also banned small boats less than 10 metres in length from leaving shore until at least Friday, September 20. Marine office chief Nachapong Pranit warns of heavy rain and strong waves up to 3 metres high in the Andaman Sea and higher again in thunderstorm areas.
Meanwhile, in the south of the island, flash flooding caused a road to collapse in Rawai yesterday. The Phuket Express reports that a section of Wiset Road, near Mittraparp Road, collapsed just before 5am.
The affected section was over 10 metres wide and 6 metres deep, with a water drain found under the collapsed road. Officials have sealed off the area while the Phuket Highway Office undertakes repair work, which is expected to take at least a week.
