A section of the well-known backroad from Kathu to Koh Keaw, Route 3030, has caved-in after continuous rain early this morning (it’s the road that runs past the Tin Mine and the British International School).
At a curve near one of the Loch Palm housing estates, a large chink of the road crumbled, destroying the large water drain that ran underneath. The hole was up to 2 metres deep in sections. Cracks are also running either side of the caved-in section, indicating that a larger section than just the hole will need to be replaced before it can be safely used again.
The soil under and around the section of road had been washed away from the overnight rain water.
Officials from Kathu and the Kathu Electricity Authority inspected the road damage this morning, diverting traffic.
There is no announcement when the road will be fixed.
