Police in Phuket have arrested a suspect with thousands of methamphetamine pills (“yaba”) in his possession. The Phuket Express reports that the man was arrested in the sub-district of Rassada, on Phuket’s east coast, near Phuket Town.

The suspect has been named as 39 year old Pairoj Mangsri, from the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat. He had 5,800 pills on him when he was arrested on Soi King Kaew. The pills were confiscated by arresting officers, along with 1.19 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

According to the report, police were acting on a tip-off that the suspect was selling illegal drugs in the neighbourhood. Officers carried out a sting operation which enabled them to arrest Pairoj, who is in custody at Phuket City Police Station, facing charges of illegal possession of category 1 narcotics with intent to sell.
