A Thai man has been taken to Patong Hospital after an apparent mental breakdown in a hotel on Ratchapathanusorn Road. The incident occurred around 9.00am yesterday, when the man seemingly became “frantic” in his room, according to the police. It’s not yet known what caused the man to break down. The Phuket News described him as ‘crazed’.

Patong Police were alerted to the fact that the man presented a possible danger to himself and others. Officers arrived on the scene to find the man locked in room 504 on what’s presumed to be the fifth floor of the hotel.

Loud noises were heard coming from the room, but officers were unable to persuade the man, named as Kittikhun Boonchuwong from Nakhon Sri Thammarat, to come out. His wife, named as Anna Srinakoon, then arrived on the scene and she was successful in her appeal to her husband to surrender.

Mr Kittikhun was transferred to Patong Hospital for treatment. It is not known if he has had similar breakdowns in the past or what triggered this incident.
