Phuket authorities have located 26 illegal jet skis after numerous complaints from concerned residents and hotel operators in the north of the island. Officials were also on the lookout for “Jet Cars,” reportedly being used in the same areas off Ao Por and the Phang Nga islands off the north-eastern coastline.

The Phuket Marine Office says that complaints were received about jet skis operating outside their permitted zones in Ao Por Bay, Naka Island, Koh Rang and Yamu Bay. The areas are located on the island’s calmer eastern waters.

Last Saturday officials from the Phuket Marine Office and Phuket Marine Police conducted inspections at Koh Rang Yai, Koh Rang Noi off Koh Kaew, Yamu Bay and Ao Por Bay in Paklok.

During the inspections, 26 jet skis were found to be unlicensed. The riders and operators were charged for operating illegal jet-skis and face fines of up to 10,000 baht. The Phuket Marine Office stated that these jet skis must not be used until they obtain legal licenses.

In addition to jet skis, officers were investigating reports of “Jet Cars” being used in Yamu Bay. Although no Jet Cars were found in operation, four were discovered parked in a shipyard in an array of colours. The operator, whose identity was not disclosed, was instructed to register the Jet Cars before using them for commercial purposes. Authorities noted that information on the Jet Cars could be found on the Phuket Jetski Club’s Facebook page.
