An armed drug dealer has been arrested in Phuket after police raided a hut in the hills above Kamala.
The Phuket News reports that the raid took place at around 4pm on Sunday, August 25. Armed officers acting on a tip-off surrounded a hut near the Baan Bang Wan Waterfall, before moving in and arresting the suspect.
During the raid, armed officers seized nearly half a kilo of crystal methamphetamine and a number of firearms, according to the report.
The suspect has been identified only as Mr Jessadaporn, aka “Bang Yim”. During a search of the hut where he’d been running his drug dealing operation, officers found nearly half a kilo of crystal meth, packaged in 8 clear plastic bags.
In addition to the drugs, officers also found a digital scale and packaging, as well as a .22-calibre rifle, kitted out with a scope and 20 bullets. They also discovered 2 modified BB guns. All items were confiscated as evidence.
According to the report, Jessadaporn admitted the drugs and weapons were his, telling police he’d purchased 400 grams of crystal meth from a Thai man for 100,000 baht. He confessed to selling the drug in Kamala.
The suspect also told police he’d bought the rifle and ammunition from a local farmer as a means to intimidate locals and keep his operation safe.
During the same raid, officers also arrested a Malaysian man identified as 30 year old Muhammad Helmi Bin Jasni, along with another man named only as Prateep Ayu. Both men were found to have 1.3 grams of crystal meth and drug paraphernalia in their possession.
The 3 suspects were taken to Kamala Police Station and charged with illegally possessing and selling crystal methamphetamine, possessing illegal firearms, and drug use.
