Two Syrian nationals have been arrested in Phuket after they were found to be travelling on fake UAE passports.
This brings to 3 the number of Syrian men arrested in Phuket for using fake passports. Another Syrian man was arrested at Phuket International Airport on Sunday, April 22, when the authorities discovered he was using a fake (also UAE) passport.
The Phuket Express reports that the latest arrests happened on Wednesday, April 24. According to Phuket Immigration officers, the two men arrested had the same travel history as the man apprehended last Sunday. All 3 had travelled from the southern province of Songkhla and stayed at a hotel in Patong.
The men checked out of the hotel on Monday, April 23, following the arrest of the first Syrian. The authorities believe the other two may have been trying to evade capture.
Both men were detained at another hotel in Patong, from where they were taken to Patong Police Station to be charged with being in possession of fake passports. Their names have not been released to the media.
