Police in Phuket have fined a Russian motorbike rider who was filmed doing “wheelies” on a road in Rawai, apparently “infuriating residents”. The man, named as 26 year old Anatolii Shatalov, was fined 5,000 baht after he rode his bike down Sai Yuan Road, performing wheelies as he went.

Footage of the man’s stunts quickly went viral on social media, sparking outrage among resident Thais and expats alike. According to a Phuket Express report, both photos and film footage of the motorbike rider were circulating widely and Thai residents were calling for him to be found and prosecuted.

A subsequent investigation by Chalong Police identified the man and he then presented himself at Chalong Station and confirmed he was the motorbike driver. He was charged with reckless driving causing a public nuisance and driving without a driving licence, and was fined 5,000 baht.
