Police in Phuket have raided a bar in the main district of Phuket Town for allegedly remaining open and selling alcohol after legal operating hours. According to a Phuket Express report, the manager of the bar, named as 27 year old Mr Wisarut, was unable to produce a valid operating licence for the bar.
The latest, legally, a nightspot can remain open is 2am, but many (MANY) pubs and clubs open past the legal times in touristy areas.
The raid took place after midnight yesterday morning, when 66 officials from town municipality and Phuket City Police visited the unnamed bar on Chana Jaroen Road, in the Talad Yai sub-district. Officers were following up on complaints from local residents that the bar was still open after the legal closing time.
It’s understood there were over 200 people inside the venue at the time. Mr Wisarut was arrested and taken to Phuket City Police Station, where he was charged with operating a nightlife venue without authorisation and selling alcohol outside of legal hours.
