A restaurant worker has taken to social media to share her experience and warn others after a diner failed to pay for her meal. It ended up costing her a chunk of her wages.
The worker, named as Nong Lin in a Phuket News report, says the failed payment happened as a result of the customer not confirming the transaction before exiting her banking app (it happens…).
The incident happened at around 11am on Thursday, May 23, at the Cafe Dim Sum Phuket, in the Old Town area. A group of diners visited the venue and spent around 20 minutes eating, then left quickly, with one member staying behind to pay the bill.
According to Nong Lin, the woman paying the bill appeared to be in a hurry and on a phone call as she waited for leftovers to be boxed up to take away. She scanned the QR code to make the payment but it never went through as she failed to confirm the transaction.
It was only after the woman had left that Nong Lin realised what had happened. Speaking to reporters on Monday, May 27, the restaurant worker says it was the first time this had happened to her and that she’d had to pay the 285-baht bill from her wages.
She subsequently took to social media to warn other restaurant workers to double-check phone payments before diners leave.
Meanwhile, the restaurant says it’s reviewing its procedures to ensure there is no repeat of the incident.
